Lean Body Barre

Lean Body Barre is an Exercise class based on Ballet, Yoga and Pilates.  This class is not heated.  While no special clothing is necessary, we do find that Barre socks help people grip the floor much more easily.  A yoga mat is required and you should definitely bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.  So...why do a barre workout?

1. Works the Muscles, but spares the joints. The small, controlled movements that take place in barre classes reduce pressure on your joints, tendons, ligaments and spine. Barre workouts also tend to help with core strength and, in turn, improves your posture, both of which not only make you appear taller, it also makes the body less prone to injuries

2. Open to All Ages and All Levels of Fitness. We show you ways to stay challenged, but Barre workouts allow you to work out at your own pace. 

3. Muscles are worked to the point of exhaustion. The tiny motions, many reps, intentional squeezes and pulses (otherwise known as isometric moves) are designed to fatigue muscles to failure. You will feel your muscles start to shake and spasm - that is actually something that is encouraged in the class - it means you are burning MEGA calories without adding bulk!

4. Modify for every age and level. Some can lift their leg higher, some can't some can bend deeply, some can't Barre workouts are not about how deeply you bend or how high you kick - rather it is about challenging your personal ability and your personal range of motion.

5. Increased flexibility - The biggest Barre Benefit. Through focused stretching, an improved range-of-motion is one of the greatest benefits of barre exercise. A perfect marriage of flexibility AND strength is needed for a Barre workout.  Too flexible! That makes it more difficult to gain strength - but barre workouts challenge you to work PAST your flexibility to gain stregnth.  Not Flexible at all?  You probably have a LOT of strength hidden in those muscles and your flexibility will come with time regular workouts.

6. Never boring, always fun. Always changing - new choreography - new people to meet and a variety of music!

7. Lost weight and inches. Appear (and feel) longer and leaner.  Barre workouts try not to focus on muscle groups that know what they are doing (like the glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps and biceps) and instead focus on inner and outer thighs, the core, the hips and the triceps.  All muscle groups that do not .work that often - so they are not as efficient.  A less efficient muscle means that less work is involved in burning more calories!

8. Improved Balance and Focus we know that exercise can release Endorphins - our body's natural "feel good" hormone.  That helps us "push" through a difficult workout, but also focuses the mind.  A clearing of the clutter has to happen - no longer do you worry about things you said or did in the past or worry about what you have to do after the class.  Your mind starts to focus on where you are at the moment - in a Barre class - having the time of your life!  

9.  Rapid results. Stick with it - sometimes you can be sore after a class, but if you stick to it - you will be amazing a the level of results as well as the speed at which those results take effect on your body! If you perform a barre workout 2-4 times weekly, you will typically notice changes in as little as one month. Changes may include an improved posture, thinner thighs, chiseled arms, a sculpted back, flat abs and a lifted seat, transforming so-called 'problem' areas, especially for women.
